These sketches and paintings will then be developed in the workspace, with participants completing a number of interpretive scenes in acrylics to be shown in the village. Vegetarian Culinary in the Algarve

This sun-drenched culinary holiday, set on a villa by the river in the inland Portuguese region, is inspired by the vegetarian dishes of celebrated cooks. Guests will master the art of meze spreads, attend a hands-on falafel session, perfect mid-morning meals such as shakshuka, and make substantial main courses including a rich mushroom stew and moussaka. The schedule includes trips to the local market and a nearby winery to taste local vintages, combined with leisure time for strolls by the nearby river, to unwind on the deck or swim in the infinity pool. Hip Hop Don’t Stop is an energizing, inclusive weekend dance intensive for adults in High Wycombe. Sea Shanty Break in Cornwall

St Ives is the excellent spot for a sea shanty weekend. Participants will be taught traditional shanties from a folk singer and vocal coach, and have a go at writing their own. There will be vocal warmups, breath control techniques, performance tips and a closing performance. The retreat is based at a country house with views of St Ives Bay. Full board are included, including a traditional tea on the first day, cooked or continental breakfasts, lunches to go and evening meals. Grog, unfortunately, is not provided. Writing in Crete

Writer and lecturer Greg Mosse runs the regular sessions on this writing retreat. He covers topics including plot, character development, setting and suspense, to submitting work to agents. A co-host, the well-known writer Kate Mosse, will participate in special sessions at the start and finish of the week. The retreat is held at a traditional complex in Vamos at the base of the Lefka Ori – ten one- and two-bedroom cottages surround a central garden with a pool (companions are encouraged to come along). On the final evening, budding authors mark the occasion with a concert in the garden and a final meal.

Introduction to Apiculture in Mid Wales

The Centre for Alternative Technology near Machynlleth runs a wide range of programs on sustainability: from wildlife gardening to making pallet furniture. It is designed to produce “ecologically mindful beekeepers”.
