The original stars, Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are confirmed to return for the latest Hunger Games series movie, Sunrise on the Reaping.
It has been confirmed that beloved actors Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are set to appear once again in the newest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. The film is currently in production.
A Significant Comeback for the Franchise
Lawrence and Hutcherson are returning as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the roles they originated. Speculation suggests their roles will probably be featured in a brief glimpse ahead, given that the main film series concluded with their characters living in peace.
This marks the sixth cinematic outing in the highly successful Hunger Games franchise.
Exploring the New Story
Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a newly published work by series creator Suzanne Collins. It acts as the second prequel film after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Returning to the director's chair is Francis Lawrence, who directed the majority of the previous films in the series.
The Storyline and Fresh Faces
The film's events are set roughly two decades prior to the first Hunger Games, centering on a young Haymitch Abernathy. Haymitch, destined to become Katniss's mentor, is featured as a tribute in the notorious 50th Hunger Games.
The supporting roles feature several notable actors in key parts:
- Jesse Plemons will portray Plutarch Heavensbee.
- Ralph Fiennes is cast as a earlier incarnation of the menacing President Snow.
What the Stars Are Doing Now & The Film's Schedule
Meanwhile, Jennifer Lawrence has been nominated for a Golden Globe for the film Die My Love. Josh Hutcherson stars in the sequel to the hit horror film Five Nights at Freddy's 2.
Regarding the production schedule:
- Principal photography started in the summer of 2025.
- Filming concluded in November of the same year.
- The eagerly awaited film is slated for November 2026 premiere.
